Bartholomew in John's will
Bartholomew Knickerbocker received a pittance in his grandfather's will. This may be partly explained by the fact that his mother remarried, then sold her own inherited property, and then moved away with Bartholomew and the twins.

Biography

  • Bartholomew Knickerbocker, B1774, was born about 1774 in Litchfield, Litchfield, CT.2
  • He died about 1852 in Cazenovia, Madison, NY, Living with son John in 1850, but is gone in 1855.
  • 1774 : See the report "John Knickerbocker and Lydia Jackson" on knic.com.
  • Knic Lineage: 1. HJ / 2. Lourens / 3. John / 4. Harmen / 5. Bartholomew (this person.)
  • Knic Generation #: 5.
  • Bartholomew Knickerbocker, B1774, lived in Litchfield, Litchfield, CT, in 1785. Grandfather John finalized his will in 1785. He left Bartholomew 1 pound, 10 shillings. This seems harsh, until considering that his mother had remarried and had just sold her own inherited property.
  • He lived in Addison, Addison, VT, about 1786. Thankful and her second husband, Stephen Pangborn, moved to Vermont. (They sold real estate in 1785 in New Canaan. Stephen then appears in the 1790 census in VT.) Bartholomew and the twins went with them.
  • 1800: John Knick "Esquire" (son of Cornelius) was the best known Knick in VT. By 1800, John "Esquire" was in Essex, about 35 miles north of Bartholomew, who was in Addison.
  • He lived in Addison, Addison, VT, in 1800. First appearance in census, 3 doors from Stephen Pangborn. 3 sons under the age of 10. (Other data for the three "known" sons has them all born near 1800. There might be at least a fourth son.) No daughters yet.3
  • He served in the military Surprising entry in the military records. This is probably not our man, who was ~38 in 1814. There may have been a man named Bartholomew in Albany, but he must have died before the 1850 every-name census. on 2 September 1814 in NY.5
  • He lived in Albany, Albany, NY, in 1817. Albany directory. Is this the same man?6
  • He lived in Nelson, Madison, NY, in 1820. 2 older adults (he is 45+; she is 26-44; B & his wife?). 1 son age 16-18. Also 2 young females. One is 16 to 25. The other is 10 to 16.1
  • He lived in Nelson, Madison, NY, in 1830. Huge family, 12 people. Includes multiple adults. Hard to decipher. Could include Robert, plus Barth's daughters and a son-in-law?4
  • 1840: In 1830, Bartholomew headed a huge multi-family household. In 1840, son John is heading a huge household, including 2 elderly people. Thus: Bart was probably living with his son in 1840
  • NY, Madison, Cazenovia. HOH = John Knickerbocker.
  • He lived in Cazenovia, Madison, NY, in 1850. Age 75. Birthplace CT. Living with his son John.2
