  • He lived in ..., Chenango, NY, in 1805. Chenango county history says he was part of the 1801 group of settlers in Chenango County. However, real estate records show that he was still in Greene County in 1803. Thus, William might actually have been part of the 1805 wave of settlers.12

The John Knickerbocker in VT was born about 1730, and was probably the son of Cornelius Knickerbocker of Litchfield, CT. (Litchfield provided many of the early settlers of VT.) John was probably too old to be the father of David "Baker" .

Biography

  • John Knickerbocker, B1731, was born about 1731 in Tivoli, Dutchess, NY.
  • He died on 2 August 1828 in Essex, Chittenden, VT, NH Gazette, 19 Aug 1828: "In Essex VT, Mr John Knickerbocker, aged 97, one of the earliest settlers of that part of Vermont." A Massachusetts paper gave date of death as Aug 2.

  • 1721 : John Knickerbocker "Esquire" is discussed briefly in the report John Knickerbocker and Lydia Jackson. More recently (2019) a deed has surfaced that proves that this John did, in fact, get married late in life. He might have had stepchildren.

  • 1809 in Essex: Chittenden Hist Soc: In 1809 John & wife Abigail made a deal with Zadoc Blin. [Neighbor in 1810 census?] Zadoc sells land & agrees to help care for John and Abigail in their old age. John gets to use half of the house & garden.
