David Knickerbocker - Baker Name Change
This tells the story of how David Knickerbocker became known as David Baker. As with most oral histories, it probably contains elements of truth and fiction.

Biography

  • David Baker Knickerbocker, B1790, was born about 1790 in VT.1,3,4,5,7
  • He and Susannah West Covell were married on 27 December 1810 in Hoosick, Rensselaer, NY.

  • He was buried in Pavilion, Genesee, NY.3,7
  • David Baker Knickerbocker, B1790, served in the military in NY.2
  • He lived in Stafford, Genesee, NY.1
  • 1790: Who was David's dad? Many trees claim John Knickerbocker in Essex, Vermont (i.e. Cornelius's son). Very unlikely. The John in Essex was born in 1730, as proven by his obit, and apparently never had children.
  • 1790: DNA shows David was a "Knickerbocker" but is not accurate enough to identify exactly which line of Knickerbockers we are talking about. Best bet is that David's father was born in Salisbury CT. Many early VT proprietors were from Salisbury CT.
  • He lived in Stafford, Genesee, NY, in 1820.6
  • He lived in Stafford, Genesee, NY, in 1830.8
