Benjamin "Junior" Knickerbocker, B17531,1,2,1,3,3,3,4,5,2,3,3,6,7,8

M, #7856, b. 3 October 1753, d. 27 October 1826

Parents

Family 1: Catharine Teefer (b. 1765, d. 1797)

Family 2: Christina Smith (b. 1768, d. 1 May 1833)

Biography

  • Benjamin "Junior" Knickerbocker, B1753, was born on 3 October 1753.4
  • He died on 27 October 1826 at age 73 in ..., Dutchess, NY, Date is from his tombstone. Age 73 years, 24 days.2,4,2
  • He was buried in Pine Plains, Dutchess, NY.4
  • Benjamin "Junior" Knickerbocker, B1753, had his estate probated in ..., Dutchess, NY.2
  • 1753: Tombstone gives his age as 73 years and 24 days, and death on 27 Oct 1826. This means he was born in 1753, either on 3 October or 4 October, depending on how the mortician counted.
  • 1753: Ada Smith's book: https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1951962?availability=Family%20History%20Library
  • Knic Lineage: 1. HJ / 2. Lourens / 3. Benjamin / 4. Benjamin (this person.)
  • Knic Generation #: 4.
  • 1753 : See the report "Knickerbockers of Pine Plains NY" but beware: the report was written years ago. The updated story can be found in the 2021 update "Many Benjamin Knickerbockers" on knic.com.
  • 3 October 1753: Findagrave currently claims Benjamin was born Nov 4th. Wrong. Actual birth date in early Oct is important. It means Benjamin “Senior” was probably the godfather of “Junior” instead of being the father. See the confusing baptism.
  • He was baptized on 4 November 1753 in Germantown, Columbia, NY.7
  • 4 November 1753: Ada Smith apparently saw the original records in the old German/Dutch. For the sponsors, Benjamin's spouse is called "his wife" by the Holland Society, but "Syn H Vr." by this alternate transcription. (Seine Vrouw = his wife.)
  • 4 November 1753: Alternate transcription vis FS still lists Benjamin's father as Laurentz Knikkebacker. (See page 36 of Ada L. Smith's book.) Thus, the original record (now lost?) probably said father was Laurentz.
  • He lived in NY in 1799.1
  • He lived in North East, Dutchess, NY, in 1800. Two Benjamins about 6 houses apart. One of them called "Jr."6
  • He lived in NY in 1802.1
  • He lived in North East, Dutchess, NY, in 1803.1
  • He lived in North East, Dutchess, NY, in 1810. This is probably the correct Benjamin, based on neighbors, and on having a slave. (See the will of Ben Senior.) Not clear why the man and woman are shown as being so young.5
  • He lived in North East, Dutchess, NY, in 1820.8
  • March 1822 in North East, Dutchess, NY: Benjamin and wife Christine sell property to Peter B Knickerbocker. (Dutchess Co Book 29 p 50)
  • He had his estate probated on 25 November 1826 in ..., Dutchess, NY.2
  • March 1830 in Pine Plains, Dutchess, NY: Christina, Henry, and Peter B Knickerbocker sell the "Knickerbocker Farm" of Benjamin Knickerbocker deceased. (Dutchess County, book 44, pages 266 and 268)
