Knickerbockers of Schagticoke who died young
The Knickerbockers of Schagticoke helped make the name "Knickerbocker" famous. For example, the Schagticoke Knickerbockers were friends with the author Washington Irving, who adopted "Knickerbocker" as his pen name.
However, there are very few living descendants of this line of Knickerbockers. This is because the family suffered from more than its fair share of infant mortality, poor health, and bad luck. A simple example is shown here.
This partial family tree includes eleven people named "John" or "Johannes" Knickerbocker. Only four of these eleven lived long lives. Seven of these John Knickerbockers died young.
